Abstract

AI is quickly changing dental diagnostics practice, and dentalradiography analysis is one of the most promising fields. Dentalradiographs are needed to identify caries, periodontal disease, periapical lesions and orthodontic and implant treatmentplans. Eastern interpretation is however constrained by flawby human, inter-observer and time. Radiographic systems that are powered by AI through the use of deep learning algorithms and machine vision algorithms have increased accuracy, efficiency, and consistency of diagnosis. Recentdevelopments show that AI can identify subtle pathologies, autopilot cephalometric landmark recognition, and supportthe treatment planning process, which can supplement clinicaldecision-making. Although these advantages exist, issues likedata standardization, transparency of the algorithms, ethicalissues, and regulatory acceptance are not eliminated. Thisarticle examines the revolutionary potential of AI in dentalradiation, discusses its clinical advantages and drawbacks, andspecifies the further routes of introducing it into the everydaydental practice. AI is not set up to supplant clinicians, but rathera complement to enhance precision dentistry, better patientoutcomes, and workflow.
